Cleanroom Antwerp in the headquarters at Antwerp Space. A cleanroom in a unique location in one of the oldest space companies, founded within the Alcatel Bell group in 1962.

High quality space technology

High-quality space engineering in this clean room in Antwerp is a necessity here. The company employs about 70 people, mostly highly skilled engineers and technicians from around the world. The multidisciplinary team of engineers is tuned to work in the international environment of the space industry. Antwerp Space has a passion for space that results in high reliable solutions and satisfied customers. The clean room is mainly used for long duration experiments. The ISO7 rooms are conditioned 24/7. Filtered air is blown in via air socks and extracted at plinth level. Flushing with air is unique in this type of cleanroom. The room is flushed clean, so to speak.

Cleanroom adaptation to office

These low-dust areas in the cleanroom Antwerp Space are unique and specially adapted to the technical requirements and architectural dimensions of the headquarters. The modular metal wall and ceiling segments are built on a raised computer floor that Highcare coated with an antistatic ESD finish.

Plumbing and flush

The rooms are sanitary and flush. Technical wiring runs outside the cleanroom, through the cavity in the wall and across the ceiling in the plenum, to the desired location. A Highcare consists of metal ceilings and walls that are completely demountable. Everything remains simply accessible due to the remountable system. Wall segments, ceilings, windows and utilities are movable. The system is relocatable. Flexibility over time is very important in an innovative company like Antwerp Space.

Space, defense and communications

Antwerp Space is active in various market segments. Like Galileo, a unique project, the first civilian satellite navigation system; this to distinguish it from current global military systems, such as the American global positioning system (gps) or the Chinese Beidou and the Russian GLONASS.

Galileo’s main raison d’ĂȘtre is political: European independence from the United States, among others. This allows Europe to decide for itself on the availability of a GNSS. During the period of Galileo’s decision-making and development, the U.S. Department of Defense introduced several similar improvements immediately for GPS or announced them for the third generation of GPS satellites (such as additional civilian frequencies and higher precision).
